A recent donation to our Resale/Rehome program included two identical blue Drive brand rollators; classic models that had been well loved and were looking pretty rough, having spent a few years neglected in a basement.
Not wanting any mobility equipment to go to waste, we combined them into one ready-for-use rollator, using the best parts of each donor—and some bits left over from other recycled devices—to Dr. Frankenstein them into a single device.
A few days later, after being advertised as free to a good home, it was adopted. The recipient of what started with that original donation explained that they would be taking the blue rollator to a parent who’s having surgery… in Nepal.
The commercial air route from Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) to Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM) in Kathmandu will take more than 20 hours and cover something like 8200 miles. We’re looking forward to getting a postcard from what is certainly our farthest-flung rehomed mobility device.
