Coming in 2026
Wheelcare.Health started from an idea in April of 2025. We ended the year still being a tiny operation but have learned a lot from our pilot efforts that will be applied to expansion of our services for 2026.
We began with the simple proposition that folks in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties would benefit from affordable, responsive on-site service of the wheelchairs and power scooters they need to live productive lives.
Unsurprisingly—looking back at where we began—we learned that our solutions exist in an enormously complex ecosystem of policies, resources, and services that influence the mobility of folks relying on wheels for health, independence, and quality of life.
We are applying our ever-improving understandings to better accommodate that reality to improve and expand our efforts for the coming year.
What’s coming for WheelCare.Health?
- Expand implementation of our Roll In Workshop model
- Develop services to connect high-end electric wheelchairs with individuals who can use them
- Improve efficiency of our Resale/Rehome program
- Continue our first public fundraising campaign to directly subsidize services to clients
- Audaciously pursue foundation and governmental grant funding, despite of our being new and small

Will Medicare pay for mobility device repairs?
- Becoming an approved Medicare fee-for-service provider is a complex process.
- Relatively few individually owned mobility devices qualify for Medicare coverage.
- Given those factors, mobility device retailers that will bill Medicare are rare. We aim to better address this issue for local individuals who qualify.
“Medicare Part B (Medical Insurance) covers wheelchairs and power-operated vehicles (scooters) as durable medical equipment (DME) that your doctor prescribes for use in your home.
You must have a face-to-face examination and a written prescription from treating provider before Medicare covers a power wheelchair or scooter. Part B covers power wheelchairs and scooters only when they’re medically necessary.”
